Live Leeu at Every Age

At the Leeu Collection, we take pride in our commitment to curating the perfect blend of leisure and excitement for the whole family at our hotels.

From the hilltop hideaway of Linthwaite House in the Lake District to our flagship hotel in Franschhoek, Leeu Estates, and its charming sister properties, Le Quartier Français and Leeu House, each of our locations’ offerings and activities have been carefully tailored to delight visitors of all ages.

Whether you opt for a luxurious family retreat in The Lakes or a much-needed escape to the heart of the Cape Winelands, here are some standout activities to enhance your experience…

Windermere Wonders

Known for its awe-inspiring natural scenery, the Lake District comes alive with lush greenery in the summer. Hidden among the spectacular scenery is Linthwaite House, a destination in and of itself.

Before you start exploring everything on offer in the surrounding area, you and the family can spend entire days playing boules, croquet and giant chess on the lawn and relaxing at the tranquil private tarn, where guests can make use of the boats to explore by water, or hire a bicycle to get a lay of the surrounding land.

Foodies will appreciate the world-class fine dining on offer at Henrock by Simon Rogan, and there are light bites and more relaxed meals on offer for the whole family at The Bar & Conservatory (which also offers memorable sundowners set against breathtaking Windermere views).

When not enjoying the exquisite outdoors, you can relax and restore your tired muscles and mind with an in-room spa treatment, or reserve a table for the family at Henrock’s renowned Sunday Lunch.

Of course, the family includes your furry companions, who can enjoy the special pet-friendly suites; sprawling grounds and woodland surrounds; walking trails; and even a welcome pack on arrival.

Beyond the Linthwaite House grounds, a local family favourite is the Herdwick Experience at Yew Tree Farm, which offers the opportunity to get up close and personal with the farm’s very friendly ‘ambassador’ sheep a mere 25-minute drive from the hotel. The kids will also enjoy a visit to the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, where they can learn all about Peter Rabbit and friends.

Explore the land on The Lakes’ many scenic walks and hikes, or take to the water on a Windermere Cruise.

At the end of a fun-filled day, a special kiddies’ turndown will make the little ones feel extra special as mom and dad surrender to the world-class luxury of the sumptuous accommodation.

Franschhoek Fun

Across the pond lie our highly-acclaimed South African properties, in the famous Franschhoek Valley. Leeu Estates, Leeu House and Le Quartier Français not only bring you five-star accommodation, but also a host of special features and activities to help you make the most of your time in the Cape Winelands.

At Leeu Estates, the serene Leeu Spa by Healing Earth offers a unique range of restorative treatments performed with natural products in an unmatched natural setting. There is even a special menu of pampers for little ones.

Keep the tranquillity going with a private picnic curated by The Dining Room Chefs for the whole family on the exquisite Leeu Estates grounds. For guests eager to immerse themselves in the spirit of South African hospitality, our traditional braai experience is a must-try. If you prefer to dine indoors, there is a menu beloved by all ages (including a special kiddies’ menu) at The Dining Room in the Leeu Estates Manor House. Those looking for a fine dining experience will love La Petite Colombe at Leeu Estates, or Épice at Le Quartier Français. Le Quartier Français also offers more casual dining at its other on-site restaurant, Protégé, and in-house guests can enjoy either indoor or al fresco dining at The Conservatory at Leeu House. Pair your dining with the region’s finest wines, either at the restaurants, or in a special guided tasting at The Wine Studio at Leeu Estates or the Great Heart Wine Boutique at Le Quartier Français.

Those interested in the source of the farm-to-fork produce served at all the restaurants can join a guided tour of the Leeu Locally Grown edible gardens for an educational and interactive immersion into organic, seasonal gardening.

After a day out in the African sun, you can dive into a sparkling pool at any of our properties. If the cold sets in, a roaring fireplace awaits to keep you cosy.

For art lovers, the Everard Read Franschhoek Gallery adjacent to Le Quartier Français and Everard Read at Leeu Estates will be sure to impress with expertly curated contemporary pieces from local artists.

Franschhoek itself offers many activities for your winelands family bucket list. The Franschhoek Village Market on Saturdays and Sundays or (seasonal)  Friday Nights at Boschendal are great opportunities to get lost in local crafts, delectable eats and good music while enjoying the majestic mountain views of the Cape Winelands. The kids will also enjoy a day at Huguenot Fine Chocolates, where they have the opportunity to craft sweet treats of their own.

From the scenic drive through the Franschhoek Pass to the many hikes in and around Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature at its finest.

Those seeking a spot of adventure can try horse riding, quad bike riding, or joining a Scootour, while motoring enthusiasts will love the Franschhoek Motor Museum’s incredible collection of classic cars. Another great way to appreciate the finer things in life is to stop in at South Africa’s first perfume museum.

After a day filled with winelands adventures, a special kiddies’ turndown awaits to make the little ones feel at home while mom, dad, gran and gramps luxuriate in the five-star accommodation.
