With destinations across the globe, Leeu Collection invites you to travel with the seasons. Wherever the calendar finds you, there is always a place in its prime, and all that remains is deciding which calls to you most.

March – May

Spring in the North | Autumn in the South

As winter loosens its grip in the north, the landscape begins to soften.

In the Lake District, hillsides turn vivid green, bluebells line walking paths and the air feels lighter and clearer. Daytime temperatures hover between 9 – 12°C (48 – 54°F), and it’s the perfect time to watch the spectacular natural surrounds of Linthwaite House coming into bloom. Some suites are also dog-friendly, ideal for those who want to enjoy spring in The Lakes with their fur friends.

Dining includes the finest in fresh, spring produce at Henrock by the renowned Simon Rogan, as well as at The Bar & Conservatory, where you can enjoy light fare and refreshing cocktails or a traditional afternoon tea surrounded by some of The Lake District’s best views.
Step outdoors to make the most of the season, whether it’s a leisurely game of giant chess or boules on the lawns, hiking the surrounding fells as they burst into colour, or setting out on a scenic lake cruise across Windermere, where you are likely to spot adorable ducklings gliding alongside their parents.

Further south, Florence steps into what many consider to be its most beautiful season. With temperatures warming to 15 – 20°C (59 – 68°F), the city opens outward. Café tables spill into the streets, gardens come into bloom, and Tuscany feels alive with possibility.

Collegio alla Querce becomes the perfect base from which to embrace this season of renewal, with the sumptuous accommodation looking out over manicured Baroque gardens and the surrounding Tuscan hills all springing into life. Al fresco dining at Café Focolare lets guests savour seasonal flavours under the Tuscan sun. Exclusive experiences are also on offer, from private access to the Duomo’s rooftop terraces with breathtaking 360-degree views of Florence to thoughtfully curated spa treatments that echo the restorative energy of spring.

While the north is in bloom, autumn settles over South Africa. Cooler days of 18 – 23°C (64 – 73°F) bring golden vineyards, softer light, and fewer crowds, making it an especially beautiful time to visit Franschhoek. Guests can enjoy world-class accommodation at Leeu Estates, Leeu House, or Le Quartier Français, with the option to start the day with breakfast in bed, expertly delivered by a dedicated team, before heading out to explore the season’s delights.

The Cape Winelands are renowned for exceptional wine, with a wealth of celebrated estates producing some of the country’s most memorable bottles. Enjoy tutored tasting experiences, from visits to The Wine Studio on Leeu Estates to complimentary tastings at the Great Heart Wines boutique for guests staying at Le Quartier Français and Leeu House.

Autumnal days bring relief from the summer heat, creating the perfect conditions for discovering Franschhoek and its surroundings. Cycle through the charming streets on an e-bike or take on the more challenging mountain-biking trails at the Berg River Conservation Area, with options to suit all levels. For a more relaxed pace, explore the Motor Museum, take part in chocolate-making masterclasses at Huguenot Fine Chocolates, or simply wander around the quaint village and take in the golden hues of this magical time of year.

June – August

Summer in the North | Winter in the South

Summer in the Lake District is defined by open landscapes and extended daylight. With temperatures averaging 15 – 19°C (59 – 66°F), it’s the perfect season for hiking, cycling, and spending full days immersed in nature. Guests at Linthwaite House can row on the tarn, enjoy picnics on the lawn, or explore the surrounding fells before returning to the comfort of the hotel.

In Florence, summer unfolds with unmistakable Italian flair. The city warms to 25 – 30°C (77 – 86°F), encouraging earlier starts, shaded afternoons, and evenings that come alive as the heat softens. Staying at Collegio alla Querce offers the ideal base for this season, pairing exquisite dining with Tuscan views that capture the warmth and vibrancy of summer in the city.

Meanwhile, the Cape Winelands embrace winter’s quieter charm. Cooler, rain-freshened days of 14 – 19°C (57 – 66°F) create an inviting backdrop for cosy indulgence and slow exploration, revealing the region at its most atmospheric.

At Leeu Estates, winter lends itself to memorable moments spent ensconced in a cocoon of comfort, from private dining experiences to long, leisurely days spent soaking in the art at the Everard Read on Leeu Estates gallery or being treated to an array of winter wellness treatments at the spa. Dining at this time reaches new heights at Le Quartier Français, with intimate winter dinners at Épice offering a refined and cosy culinary experience complete with warming spices perfectly suited to the season. While staying at Leeu House, guests can retreat away on a private escape at the exclusive-use boutique hotel.

Winter nights at all of the properties invite guests to retreat into comforting and cosy corners, where crackling fireplaces, warm and welcoming service, and beautifully appointed spaces create a sense of slow luxury.

September – November

Autumn in the North | Spring in the South

The Lake District is transformed by autumn, with forests glowing in shades of amber and rust. Temperatures cool to 9 – 14°C (48 – 57°F), crowds thin out, and the landscape feels wonderfully still. It’s the ideal base for leaf-peeping season at Linthwaite House, where the changing foliage provides a breathtaking backdrop for peaceful walks, photography, and quiet reflection.

In Florence, autumn signals the harvest season. September often carries lingering warmth, while October ushers in cooler days and a calendar filled with culinary celebrations. Guests at Collegio alla Querce can immerse themselves in the season through experiences such as pasta-making classes, Tuscan wine tastings, and cocktail masterclasses, offering a deeper connection to Italian culture at a relaxed pace.

At the same time, spring breathes new life into the Cape Winelands. Sunny days return, vineyards awaken and wildflowers blanket the earth. With temperatures around 16 – 20°C (61 – 68°F), it’s a perfect time to explore the region from Leeu Estates, Leeu House or Le Quartier Français. Guests can take in the charm of Franschhoek village or wander the surrounding mountains.

December – February

Winter in the North | Summer in the South

As the year draws to a close, the hemispheres trade places once more. Winter settles gently over the Lake District, turning hills and valleys into a quiet, frost-kissed landscape. With temperatures often dipping below 0°C (32°F), it’s a season for stillness, cosy interiors, and crackling fires. Linthwaite House comes alive during the festive season, offering guests the chance to explore nearby Christmas markets while enjoying the serene beauty of the Lake District in winter.

In Florence, winter reveals a different side of the city. Cooler days and fewer visitors create space for deeper relaxation, while festive markets and seasonal events add charm. Staying at Collegio alla Querce during this season offers unmatched indulgence and comfort, providing a luxurious retreat from the crisp Italian air.

While the north rests, summer arrives in full colour in the Cape Winelands. Long, sun-filled days and temperatures climbing beyond 30°C (86°F) bring energy and celebration. Vineyards burst with life, festivals fill the calendar, and outdoor living is at its best in the Cape Winelands. At Leeu Estates, summer days unfold with poolside cocktails enjoyed against sweeping views, while picnics and braais at selected cottages can be arranged with the team for relaxed, open-air dining. Leeu House and Le Quartier Français invite guests to cool off with refreshing dips in the pool, offering laid-back, sun-soaked spaces that make the most of the season.
